Safeguarding

At Galliard Primary School, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment where every child feels valued, protected and able to thrive. We believe that children learn best when they feel secure, respected and connected to the people around them. Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility, and every member of our school community has a role to play in keeping children safe and supporting their wellbeing.

Our Safeguarding Pillars

1. Safe and Supportive Relationships

Positive relationships are the foundation of our school. We want every child to feel known, understood and valued as an individual. We ensure that children have trusted adults they can turn to for help, guidance or reassurance and that they feel confident their worries will be listened to and taken seriously.

2. Prevention and Education

Through our curriculum, assemblies and daily interactions, we help children develop the knowledge, confidence and skills they need to stay safe. This includes understanding healthy relationships, managing risk, looking after their mental and physical wellbeing, and navigating the online and offline world safely and responsibly.

3. Early Identification and Intervention

We are vigilant in recognising when a child or family may need additional support. By building strong relationships and maintaining professional curiosity, we are able to notice concerns early and respond quickly. We believe early help can make a significant difference and are committed to ensuring support is provided at the earliest opportunity.

4. Skilled and Accountable Adults

All staff, governors and volunteers receive regular safeguarding training and understand their responsibility to protect children. Clear systems, effective communication and strong leadership ensure safeguarding remains a priority across all aspects of school life.

5. Partnership with Families and Agencies

Effective safeguarding relies on collaboration. We work closely with parents, carers and external agencies to ensure children and families receive coordinated support when needed. By working together, we can achieve the best possible outcomes for every child.

Creating a Strong Safeguarding Culture

At Galliard Primary School, safeguarding is more than a set of procedures; it is the culture that underpins everything we do, driven by visible leadership, high-quality training and an unwavering commitment to pupil wellbeing. Children's voices are listened to and valued, staff feel confident to raise concerns, and safeguarding is woven into everyday practice.

We recognise that safeguarding extends beyond protecting children from immediate harm. It includes promoting emotional wellbeing, supporting positive mental health, encouraging regular attendance and helping children develop the skills they need to flourish both in and beyond school.

We also recognise that safeguarding concerns can arise outside of school, within the community, online or through peer relationships, and we work proactively to help children stay safe in all areas of their lives. By fostering trust, openness, a sense of belonging and a shared responsibility for keeping children safe, we create a school community where every child feels safe, respected and ready to learn.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies, when there are concerns about a child's welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our pupils are discussed with parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child's welfare.

At Galliard School, keeping children safe is our highest priority. Everyone has a responsibility to safeguard and protect children. If you have any concerns about the safety or welfare of a child, please contact us immediately.

You will always be taken seriously. Anyone can make a referral — parents, pupils, staff, or members of the community.

How to Report a Safeguarding Concern

If you are worried that a child is at risk of harm, abuse, or neglect, you can report your concern in the following ways:

Our Commitment

We follow the statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and London Child Protection Procedures. All staff receive regular safeguarding training, and we work closely with external agencies to keep pupils safe.
