Our Parent Workshop

It has been lovely seeing so many parents joining us for our reading workshops. The Children thoroughly enjoy these sessions. Please continue to join us every Friday at 3pm. Thank you for your continued support.

Looking for Bugs

We have created 'Investigation areas' in all of our classrooms. This gives Children the opportunity to explore and investigate the world around them and learn lots of new vocabulary. In particular, the Children have really enjoyed looking for Mini-Beasts and observing them closely. Children have been talking about the habitats of these Mini-Beasts and have enjoyed reading a range of Non-Fiction texts to support their understanding.

📖 Story Time 📚

We choose a variety of books that include repeated phrases to encourage the Children to join in and engage with the stories. We read these stories several times a week so that the Children become familiar with the text and are confident to join in with the repeated phrases.

📖 World Book Day Celebrations 🌍

Reception loved taking part in World Book Day. The children dressed up as their favourite book character and enjoyed talking about their outfit with their friends. The children read lots of different stories throughout the day and enjoyed discussing them. Reception took part in a costume parade and showed off their outfits to the rest of the school.

Our 1st Reading Workshop

It was lovely to welcome Reception parents into school today for our 1st reading workshop. It was a great success! Thank you for your continued support.

✏️ Reception Learning 📖

Following on from our Power of Reading book 'Oh No George', we enjoyed writing words and short sentences about the story. We use our phonics knowledge to support us with our writing.

We carry out lots of fine motor skills to help support and develop the muscles that help us to write. Some of the activities that we enjoy are; threading, placing pegs onto the correct number, playdough and using tweezers to transfer pasta from one bowl to the other. You can try some of these at home!

We develop our scientific skills in a number of ways. We enjoy carrying out floating and sinking activities, exploring magnets on different materials and looking for mini-beasts in the outdoor area!

We enjoy reading a range of books in Reception. We have also been using our story teller voices when reading and linking stories to our own experiences.

We have been learning about numbers, shapes and measurements. We enjoy exploring these concepts through practical activities in the indoor and outdoor learning environment.

📚 Reception Reading Challenge 🏆

The children in Reception were really excited to take part in their very own reading challenge. Over a couple of weeks, they had to help Ryder from Paw Patrol complete lots of tasks including: reading an information book with a grown up, taking a photo of themselves reading in an unusual place, retelling their favourite story, making up a story, reading signs on the way to school and listening to lots of stories every day. Everyone got a reading badge at the end and those who tried hard to complete the challenge got a certificate too. We hope that this helps all our Reception children get firmly hooked on books!

🚂 Train Tracks 🚊

In Reception, we enjoy using our imagination to build and construct using a variety of resources. Children also use their own personal experiences to add detail to their creations.

Reception Fun

We have the most amazing ideas and used chalk to make patterns on the ground.  We worked out that we can take turns to push each other in circles and make new patterns each time.

We have the communication skills to make up our own rules in a throwing and catching game.  We can follow these rules for long periods of time negotiating the space and laughing and talking to each other.

We love digging and making dinner for everyone in our mud kitchen!

Hanging from the pole builds the muscles in our arms and develops our gross motor skills.  This gives us the strength to hold a pencil and learn to write.

There are lots of resources all around our learning areas.  Today we spotted the numbers and helped each other to count.

We are really good at sorting objects into colours.  We have learnt to do this with our friends and can share and take turns.

Sometimes we like to sit and chat.  This improves our language and communication skills.

We have fantastic physical skills!  We can balance from one block to the next without falling off.

This week Reception have enjoyed listening to the story ‘I am a Tiger’ written by Karl Newson and Ross Collins.

The children have engaged with the story all week and enjoyed joining in with the words and actions as it is read to them by an adult.  They have also been exploring the characters through a range of creative activities including role play, mask making, small world play and drawing activities.
