School Parliament

Galliard School Parliament

We are looking forward to setting up Galliard’s first School Parliament in the summer term. This will be a wonderful opportunity to hear the views of all pupils through a democratic process and learn how to action ideas.

Our School Parliament will focus on:

  • Working and learning together
  • Learning about democracy
  • Learning how to play a positive role model in our community
  • Improving our school for everyone

Each class will have a class councillor. The councillors will be responsible for collecting the views and issues raised in their classes. In year 6, instead of councillors, each class will have two MPs (Members of Parliament) who lead their council in regular meetings. These councils will be arranged in Galliard Family groupings. The MPs will learn to chair the meetings and take minutes supported by a senior member of teaching team. The MP from each Galliard Family will then meet with the Headteacher each half term.

We will begin this process by having a special ‘polling day’ to vote for the councillors and MPs. We will be getting the children to visit our school hall to vote on ballots papers and enter into a box.

House Captains:

The House and Vice Captains have been elected by their peers to head the different houses in the school.

When children start at Galliard they are allocated a house. Each house is represented by a different colour and on PE days children wear a PE top in the colour of their house.

House and Vice Captains take a lead during sporting events and each week the house with the most house points receives the cup.

This year while we prepare to launch our band new School Parliament in the summer term our House and Vice Captains have stepped up and are helping us give children an important voice in the school. They are raising issues and offering ideas on behalf of all the pupils. They are committed to improving the school experience for everyone.
